Ayurveda Can Cure Migraine: Padma Shree Prakash

 

9th Mile, Ri Bhoi, 25 April 2018: “Migraine is a disease of the urban society. Healthy life style and proper Ayurvedic medication can cure migraine, which is not possible by allopathic treatment”, said Padma Shree Vaidya Balendu Prakash, Director, Vaidya Chandra Prakash Cancer Research Foundation, Dehradun. Padma Shree Prakash was delivering a talk on “Relief from Migraine through Ayurveda” organized by the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) here today.

Addressing hundreds of students at USTM, Prakash said that migraine is mainly caused by irregular eating habits, arresting of basic urges like sleep, hunger, urine, stool etc., irregular life style, anxiety, worry, lack of exercises, use of certain drugs and diseases affecting the hepato-biliary system. According to him, regulated diet of three meals and three snacks (1600 calories) a day, eight hour sleep and a combination of four classical Ayurvedic formulations (Herbo – minerals) namely, Narikel Lavana, NUMAX, Rason Vati and Godanti Mishran are the Ayurvedic treatment protocol for migraine.


Referring to a study conducted by him and Prof (Dr) Manjari Tripathi, Department of Neurology, AIIMS, New Delhi on “Randomised controlled clinical trial to evaluate prophylactic properties of Ayurvedic treatment protocol in refractory and chronic migraine patients” during 2012 to 2016, he said that Ayurveda treatment protocol has significant and sustainable effect in the prevention of migraine in comparison to modern medicines without causing any side effect. Under the study the patients fulfilling IHSDC for Migraine carries pitta dominant pulse and pain/tenderness on palpation in Gall Bladder and Colon area of abdomen Acid alkaline imbalance within digestive tract.


He also said that females are mostly vulnerable to Migraine than males. While interacting with the students, he emphasized on the importance of research and innovation. He also said that there is a need for experimental and clinical pharmacological studies to understand and establish Ayurvedic concepts of treatment towards the cause and cure of Migraine.
