First ever Women’s Education Rally at Barak Valley

“If we educate a male, we educate an individual; if we educate a female, we educate a generation”- with this aim in mind, Education Research & Development Foundation (ERDF), Guwahati had recently taken a bold step to break the barriers in Women’s Education by establishing the Khairun Nessa Begum Women’s College(KBWC) at Badarpur in the district of Karimganj, Assam. On the 24th of May, 2015, this newly started College has organized a huge Women’s Rally starting from Badarpur Fire Brigade Station to Police Station where more than one thousand girl students, Women academicians, guardians and well wishers across the region irrespective of cast, creed and religion had actively participated. Students displayed placards with slogans like “Education liberates a Woman”, “Support Women Education” etc. A large number of people of the locality witnessed the rally and appreciated the efforts of the organizers.

Following the rally, a Panel Discussion on “Participation of Women in Higher Education -A Barak Valley Perspective” was organized in the premises of the new College at Hasanpur, Srigouri, Badarpur. The discussion was presided over by Dr. Kamaluddin Ahmed, Ex Principal, Karimganj College & Director, KBWC and moderated by Dr. Bibhash Dev, Former Director, CDC, Assam University, Silchar. All the speakers stressed upon the importance of education for women. They appealed to the families to send forward their daughters for higher education by breaking all the rigidity which will ultimately help in educating the generations.

Khairun Nessa Begum Women’s College will provide all kinds of facilities and a congenial environment for the girl students to pursue their higher education keeping the religious values intact. The college is named after the beloved mother of the Chairman of ERD Foundation Mr. Mahbubul Hoque who had lots of struggles & sacrifices to make her all sons educated and well established in life.
